About the event
Christian D. Menefee, Harris County Attorney will speak at the May 1, 2023 meeting of the West University Area Democratic Club (“The Club”). We welcome you to join us for a social time starting at 6:30pm prior to the meeting.
As the Harris County Attorney, Mr. Menefee is the chief civil lawyer for the largest county in Texas. He manages an office of 250+ attorneys and staff who represent the county, its 60 elected officials, and its 18,000+ employees in all civil matters and lawsuits. He is the first African-American and the youngest person to serve in the position. The son of two veterans, Mr. Menefee attended public schools in Harris County and was the first in his family to attend college. He is a graduate of The University of Texas at San Antonio and Washington University St. Louis School of Law.
The Harris County Attorney’s Office fights for the interests of Harris County through the civil justice system to preserve access to clean air and water; ensure safe, healthy neighborhoods; protect consumers against fraud, exploitation, and other bad acts; and defend voting rights. Recent high profile cases include Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar's lawsuit alleging that Harris County officials "defunded the police" and violated state laws prohibiting counties from decreasing law enforcement's budget without approval from voters and the lawsuits brought by GOP candidates who lost in the November 2022 elections, but are now contesting the results through January 2023 lawsuits.
